whew! after a two-month hiatus, i’ve was finally able to get back into my mixes as most of june and july were consumed by work and the move from seattle to minneapolis. well, after being in minneapolis for three weeks now, it’s still been busy trying to get settled in and getting into a more typical “routine” of sorts while trying to do some personal projects on the side. “convergence” reflects my recent cross-country move, the seemingly parallel lives one experiences for a few weeks until they can close one chapter while getting a considerable push into the next. the move. the change. the challenge. as a result, i chose to select a wide variety of tracks for this mix whose release dates and memories span the duration from my beginnings in seattle up to my current, yet young, life in minneapolis. each track, for me, has a particular memory attached to it within this period of time. So there is some underlying structure amongst it’s seemingly chaotic mosaic of trance, progressive and dark minimal.

sūp:urbia – strukture

on the heels of a much needed vacation and road trip, and recorded while driving through the monotonous south dakota landscape, “strukture” is finally released. work consumed most of my time last month, so wasn’t able to get a mix out again, which proved beneficial for strukture as it’s sound was able to evolve and mature from my original plan for it last month.

strukture reflects the personal foundation that has strengthened over the past few months in all aspects of my life, a strong foundation to consistently grow from and build upon–a rejuvenation of sorts. thanks for the support, and enjoy the tracks!

dancing and drinking

leonel (friend visiting from nyc who i went to architecture school with) has been in town since late wednesday and we’ve been going out every night hitting up several bars and clubs here in seattle. i haven’t been out all that much because several people i talk to say the club scene is not all that great and it’s usually only good if you go out with a group of friends. anyway, it’s definitely been a good time for the past three nights… drinking, dancing and drinking some more. we’ve also been going out with two other friends from school who live here in seattle as well so it’s been somewhat of a reunion of sorts, where architecture seems to be a common topic in our conversations as expected. most of the places we’ve been going to are in the first hill/capitol hill area and most of them have been good (though two of them not so much because of the music selection and overall scene).

last night we started the night off at manray in first hill with some drinks and chatting, where we met up with two more people who went to architecture school with us. i wanted to go to see d:fuse who was playing in town at a club downtown, so we headed over to last supper club for his show just before midnight. d:fuse is from austin whose sound is more progressive trance/house. all the shows of his i went to in austin were really awesome so i didn’t have any doubts that this one would be any worse. of course i was right… his set was awesome and this was probably the first club i’ve been to here that had more of my type of music (finally!). the only thing that sucks about the night scene here is that everything closes at 2am, so we were kicked out quickly at 2 when d:fuse’s set was over. i miss the club scene in nyc where you can go to a dj show all night long… leaving as the sun is rising at 6 or 7 in the morning! though i’m not sure if my current sleeping habits would allow for that anymore.

today my friends are heading east of the cascades to the sasquatch music festival in central washington, though i’m staying in seattle since that’s not really my music scene (although there are some artists i like performing). tonight dj eva, who i saw at a club once last time i was in seattle for a studio research trip a little over a year ago, is playing at seesound in belltown. she’s really good as well… a little more trance than d:fuse’s progressive sounds.

at the beginning of june, above and beyond are playing here at the last supper club, so i’m definitely going to that as well since they are awesome djs as well. hopefully this good dj schedule continues through the summer… if only dj tiesto would make an appearance here. going to these shows and watching them perform live makes me want to really focus on mixing and producing my own stuff, which i have been experimenting with more recently. looks like i’ll just really have to devote a lot more time to it (along with everything else, of course…).
