“9/11 has made us stupid. I honor, and weep for, all those murdered on that day. But our reaction to 9/11 — mine included — has knocked America completely out of balance, and it is time to get things right again…

“Before 9/11, the world thought America’s slogan was: “Where anything is possible for anybody.â€? But that is not our global brand anymore. Our government has been exporting fear, not hope: “Give me your tired, your poor and your fingerprints…

“Al Qaeda is about 9/11. We are about 9/12, we are about the Fourth of July — which is why I hope that anyone who runs on the 9/11 platform gets trounced.”

the last footage that was deemed to be “new” by the government and media was in fact the same footage that had been aired two times previously in 2001 and 2003. apparently the US government was also caught releasing staged al-queda videos. so, why should we honestly believe this one to be any different?

the first article i linked refers to the “new” footage released last month and sums up such instances quite well:

Six months after the failed “surge” in Iraq and with Bush’s approval ratings sliding to all time lows while calls for impeachment reach a crescendo, a slew of information threatening a new Al-Qaeda attack gets released and up pops Osama – in a tape that is re-hashed for a third time – to validate the Neo-Con’s insistence that to leave Iraq is to hand the terrorists a victory. That tape is released by an organization with clear links to the military-industrial complex who had knowingly released the same footage years earlier.

Is all this a coincidence, or does such chicanery and crass manipulation of the electorate and the political process demand an immediate Congressional investigation as to why the U.S. government and its lapdog media fronts are working with the terrorists to artificially boost their profile while scaring the holy crap out of the American people at the most politically opportune moments?

and of course our ‘fine’ president denies this claim, declaring that “[he] think[s] it’s naïve. [he] think[s] it’s a mistake for people to believe that going on the offense against people that want to do harm against the american people makes us less safe.â€? um… hello! iraq was not an immediate threat to the US in the first place before invading, but now it definitely is as it has only increased hatred and resentment towards the US. we created a failed state by removing saddam hussein which has provided a breeding ground for global jihadists. therefore, i’m quite torn between deciding if many in our administration is truly ignorant, lying or hiding the truth from the american people simply to reduce negative effects on the upcoming elections.

so, we remain on this never-ending downhill voyage due to bush and his administration deciding that misleading and lying to the people for the sake of saving their positions and reputation is more important than the truth. presidential elections in 2008 definitely cannot come soon enough!
