i came across a time.com article about the release of windows vista (yeah… you didn’t hear any bells, whistles or alarms when i said that did ya!). the article pretty much sums up the lack of innovation that is evident in vista…which again is not a big shock since clearly apple is dominating the operating system market in terms of efficiency and innovation. the author even suggested that vista is “an embarrassment to the good name of American innovation,” which again i could not agree any more. so vista may not be the biggest tech flop of 2007, but it will definitely be up there.

ah, i await when apple releases the new mac osx this year… leopard!

yesterday microsoft signed off on their code for their new vista os, declaring it ‘golden’ and ready to go…first to hardware/software manufacturers and then to consumers by january 30th of next year. first off, i’m sure many of you are aware that i have grown discontent with microsoft and their lack of innovation over the recent years but this upcoming release has simply exacerbated that for several reasons.

first off, the current state of vista is a majorly gutted version of the original concept that they came out with in 2003 simply because they could not manage it well enough to get everything accomplished and released at a reasonable date (well taking five years to release a new version of your OS is not really reasonable… next year apple is releasing a new version of the mac osx which will be the second or third within the time frame that it has take microsoft to develop vista!). looks like microsoft is not nearly innovative enough…or just has lost its capabilities.

then there’s this issue with microsoft’s major lag behind the times when it comes to new technologies, especially in terms of usability. in general, windows is not a very user-friendly operating system when compared to mac osx, not to mention to the security flaws. if they were releasing a product that came remotely close to what they had promised five years ago, then perhaps it would be more worth it. instead, we are simply getting windows xp sp3 with some security enhancements. some of the more compelling aspects of this vista release that have been raved about are the interface, graphics and features that, when honestly compared to the latest version of mac osx, were obviously “borrowed”. hell, look how long it took them to release internet explorer 7 with tabbed browsing when mozilla browsers have had it in place for years now! truly pathetic indeed! then if you also look at the immense amount of memory and resources vista hogs on your system, it has been noted that many computers will not be able to run it if it’s not a top-notch machine running the latest and best components.

all of these reasons (and many more) begs the question, why would i spend $400 for a second-rate (if it even comes that close) rip-off of mac osx when i can get mac osx for $129 that is much better and more efficient anyway? thanks anyway, but for my pc i will stick with windows xp for quite some time!

drool… apple recently released their new desktop powerhouse machines utilizing the new Intel Dual Core technology and damn they are awesome. just check out the stats. although i am still going to end up buying the new macbook pro, i still love this machine nonetheless and would definitely consider buying one later on down the road. hook up one these new mac pros to an awesome display (preferably the 23″ or greater) and it would be one hell of a damn machine! and it would only put you back at least $6K… but hey, it’s definitely worth it.
