the last footage that was deemed to be “new” by the government and media was in fact the same footage that had been aired two times previously in 2001 and 2003. apparently the US government was also caught releasing staged al-queda videos. so, why should we honestly believe this one to be any different?

the first article i linked refers to the “new” footage released last month and sums up such instances quite well:

Six months after the failed “surge” in Iraq and with Bush’s approval ratings sliding to all time lows while calls for impeachment reach a crescendo, a slew of information threatening a new Al-Qaeda attack gets released and up pops Osama – in a tape that is re-hashed for a third time – to validate the Neo-Con’s insistence that to leave Iraq is to hand the terrorists a victory. That tape is released by an organization with clear links to the military-industrial complex who had knowingly released the same footage years earlier.

Is all this a coincidence, or does such chicanery and crass manipulation of the electorate and the political process demand an immediate Congressional investigation as to why the U.S. government and its lapdog media fronts are working with the terrorists to artificially boost their profile while scaring the holy crap out of the American people at the most politically opportune moments?

honestly, who the hell believes this shit still!? i bet all of bush’s speeches, and the speeches other of the top officials under bush, follow the same ridiculous pattern. one word–propganda. it’s just bush being “misleading” and “disingenuous” as usual:

But other experts and former U.S. intelligence officials questioned those assertions.

They noted that the Iraq conflict had undoubtedly attracted Islamic extremists who were trained in Afghanistan and might have fought in other theaters. But some cited an official U.S. National Intelligence Estimate released last year that described Iraq as a “cause celebre” for Islamic radicals worldwide, fanning anger and resentment across the Muslim world and beyond.

“I think what the president is saying is in some sense fundamentally misleading,” said Robert Grenier, former head of the counter-terrorism center at the CIA as well as the agency’s mission manager for the war in Iraq. “If he means to suggest the invasion of Iraq has not created more jihadists bent on killing Americans, and that if Iraq hadn’t been there as a magnet they would have been attracted somewhere else, that’s completely disingenuous.”

The war “has convinced many Muslims that the United States is the enemy of Islam and is attacking Muslims, and they have become jihadists as a result of their experience in Iraq,” Grenier said.

Bush also said Al Qaeda in Iraq posed a threat to Americans at home. “We’ve already seen how Al Qaeda used a failed state thousands of miles from our shores to bring death and destruction to the streets of our cities, and we must not allow them to do so again,” he said.

Several experts said prevailing U.S. intelligence was at odds with that assertion as well.

Bruce Hoffman of Georgetown University, a veteran counter-terrorism analyst and government consultant, said the vast majority of fighters who are part of Al Qaeda in Iraq are Iraqis who have shown little interest in seeking targets beyond that country’s borders.

the bush administration has a hatred for unions everywhere, but it has a more intense hatred for them in iraq, which has been the only force in that country trying to maintain at least a survival living standard for those who have to go to work daily amid the devastation of war. it seems that unions in iraq are the main opposition to the US occupation’s economic agenda there… the privatization of iraq’s oil. an article yesterday describes how iraqi workers are striking in order to keep their oil. the following are excerpts from the article:

But one demand overshadows even these basic needs – renegotiation of the oil law that would turn the industry itself over to foreign corporations. And it is this demand that has brought out even the US fighter jets, which have circled and buzzed over the strikers’ demonstrations. In Iraq, the hostile maneuvering of military aircraft is not an idle threat to the people below. This standoff reflects a long history of actions in Iraq, by both the Iraqi government and the US occupation administration, to suppress union activity.

Together with other unions in railroads, hotels, ports, schools and factories, they’ve gone on strike, held elections, won wage increases and made democracy a living reality. Yet the Bush administration, and the Baghdad government it controls, has outlawed collective bargaining, impounded union funds and turned its back (or worse) on a wave of assassinations of Iraqi union leaders.

President Bush says he wants democracy, yet he will not accept the one political demand that unites Iraqis above all others. They want the country’s oil (and its electrical power stations, ports and other key facilities) to remain in public hands.

The occupation has always had an economic agenda. Occupation czar Paul Bremer published lists in Baghdad newspapers of the public enterprises he intended to auction off. Arab labor leader Hacene Djemam bitterly observed, “War makes privatization easy: first you destroy society; then you let the corporations rebuild it.”

The Bush administration won’t leave Iraq in part because that economic agenda is still insecure. Under Washington’s guidance, the Iraqi government wrote a new oil law in secret. The Iraq study commission, headed by oilman James Baker, called it the key to ending the occupation.

Like all Iraqi unionists, Juma’a says the occupation should end without demanding Iraq’s oil as a price. “The USA claimed that it came here as a liberator, not to control our resources,” he reminded Congress. Congressional opponents of the war can only win Iraqis’ respect if they disavow the oil law.

“If Bush were in the least bit honest he can now with the empirical knowledge base and consequent actions meet with the American and Iraqi dead and explain exactly why they died.”

and of course our ‘fine’ president denies this claim, declaring that “[he] think[s] it’s naïve. [he] think[s] it’s a mistake for people to believe that going on the offense against people that want to do harm against the american people makes us less safe.â€? um… hello! iraq was not an immediate threat to the US in the first place before invading, but now it definitely is as it has only increased hatred and resentment towards the US. we created a failed state by removing saddam hussein which has provided a breeding ground for global jihadists. therefore, i’m quite torn between deciding if many in our administration is truly ignorant, lying or hiding the truth from the american people simply to reduce negative effects on the upcoming elections.

so, we remain on this never-ending downhill voyage due to bush and his administration deciding that misleading and lying to the people for the sake of saving their positions and reputation is more important than the truth. presidential elections in 2008 definitely cannot come soon enough!
