seventh and final… thank god!

our “fine” president bush delivered his seventh and final state of the union address last night… thankfully! i could only stomach watching the last little bit, which still made me sick and angered. it’s amazing how much he makes my blood pressure rise when i see him or hear him speak, and yet i haven’t even met the guy (not like i would want to). it’s interesting that every time he gives a speech he does mention domestic issues and failure plaguing our country (economy, education, medical care, etc)…though he is still blinded to the reality of it all and to how bad it really is. yeah he mentions it, but he never does anything about it. instead, he is so focused on foreign issues primarily those of the middle east, with his head up iraq and iran’s asses that it’s no wonder he has no clue of what’s going on here at home. as usual, the majority of his speech was consumed by his usual fear tactics, suggesting that his make-believe terrorist threat is still real and imminent. um… sorry to tell you this bush but the majority of americans aren’t falling for your b.s. any longer!

oh and what even made me more sick was his speech at the end…what i actually saw. he was talking about freedom, liberty and the power of the people. he even mentioned the constitution in there! seriously, what a crock of shit! i don’t think our “decider” has even read the constitution nor does he fully understand what it entails. his war crimes and complete disregard of the law and of the constitution makes that blatantly clear. here’s what he said at the end that really got under my skin:

The secret of our strength, the miracle of America, is that our greatness lies not in our government, but in the spirit and determination of our people. When the federal convention met in Philadelphia in 1787, our nation was bound by the Articles of Confederation which began with the words, “We the undersigned delegates.” Constitution, he offered an important revision, and opened with words that changed the course of our nation and the history of the world: “We the people.”

By trusting the people, our founders wagered that a great and noble nation could be built on the liberty that resides in the hearts of all men and women. By trusting the people, succeeding generations transformed our fragile young democracy into the most powerful nation on earth and a beacon of hope for millions.

And so long as we continue to trust the people, our nation will prosper, our liberty will be secure and the state of our union will remain strong.

he did get one thing right in those statements… that “our greatness lies not in our government,” a government so corrupted by power and money that nothing significant is accomplished and who turns their backs on the people they are supposed to be representing. if you trusted the people, then you wouldn’t really need domestic spying programs and wiretapping… essentially deeming us as threats to our own country. actually, the more likely reason for your domestic spying is because you’re afraid of having threats to your own power and wealth… afraid of a rising up from the masses. speak out against the government and our president… you’re instantly deemed an enemy combatant and more seriously watched under these programs.

just look at the responses, most of which are negative, to his address by readers on the nytimes site.

bush should have closed his term by speaking the truth to the american people rather than reading from a script that someone else wrote for him. he at minimum owes that to all of us. his speech should have started “My fellow Americans, I had a speech prepared to read to you tonight, but instead I want to apologize to all of you for my seven years of failure and for caving in to pressure from those who have really been running the country behind closed doors.”

fortunately, this eight years of hell is about to come to a close. let’s just hope we can get someone in there who will bring about major change and hope back to our country.
