i recently came across a cspan video from a 1994 interview with dick cheney who reveals the reasons why invading baghdad and toppling saddam hussein wouldn’t be a great idea. he also stipulates that “not very many” american soldiers’ lives were worth losing to take out saddam during the gulf war. and better yet, he asks the question that “once you took down saddam hussein’s government, what are you going to put in its place?” seems like this is the exact question that we are still looking for an answer to today. so, what the hell changed between 1994 and 2002/2003 that made it suddenly okay to invade iraq? oh, that’s right… it must have been all the “weapons of mass destruction” they had and the involvement in 9/11.
