alongside the lies, failures, blunders and war crimes committed by the united states in the iraqi war is the prevailing ignorance displayed by a majority of the population here. this newsvine discussion looks at the united states occupation and tactics thus far during the iraqi war and asks, “how do you live with it when your country becomes the fourth reich!?” although i do question the validity of some things which the article suggests, i do believe there is some truth behind it considering everything. the initiative for such war crimes lies not with the soldiers themselves, but rather with our own administration who feeds them such orders. i honestly don’t understand how a civilian population can sit back and take in all the lies that their politicians running the show feed them while their solidiers–theyr family members–are dying and an unjustified war continues. just look at the state of our country right now. people stand behind our administration, ignoring the real truth when presented to them (just look at how many people are supporting those presidential candidates at the top right now… all feeding the public more and more lies, promsing change and suggesting they “care” about the american people when we all know they only care about their own profiteering). we have a horrible form of foreign policy, which is what is actually fueling the hatred for america across the world. our “war on terror” will never be won because for one it cannot be won by military force. rather, we must totally reinvent our foreign policy and take on a more diplomatic approach. there has always been terrorism in human civilization. there will always be terrorism in human civilization. war will never end it and so one has to learn how to handle it in a non-aggressive way.
meanwhile, the pharmaceutical industry wants to make sure we are all drugged up on every medication possible… i swear they have a medication for everything nowadays, even that which is not even a disorder or disease. what about the sorry excuse for an attempt at a health care system in this country? oh, and then there’s shit like this that just adds to it all. and of course don’t forget america’s obsession with guns and a recent gun giveaway. it’s also hard to believe that although bush’s approval rating is at an all-time low of 28% (almost reaching the record low that nixon hit at 24%) and continues to plummet (after being voted as the worst president since the end of WWII), we as americans are not holding the administration responsible for any of their actions. we would rather gladly go about our daily lives…taking the “ignorance is bliss” approach and just wait for some change to suddenly occur. well, you may want to wake up and realize that change will not happen on its own without the drive of the american people and that most politicians don’t listen to the people they serve.
it’s absurd and ridiculous how bad things have gotten. fortunately it seems that more and more people are furious over the current state of america, but it’s still not enough. are we not sick of the lies yet? how far can they control us before we realize that many of our constitutional rights have been stripped away?
