i have pretty much had it with all those people who get so damned bent out of shape over the most meaningless and pointless crap that just so happens to popup in society. for example, i just read this newsvine article about a woman in ohio who is steaming mad about a supposedly anti-god quote on her cup, a message as part of starbucks’ “the way i see it” campaign which is meant to stir intelligent conversation and discussion. her quote, written by a starbucks customer from london, ontario, canada, stated the following:
“Why in moments of crisis do we ask God for strength and help? As cognitive beings, why would we ask something that may well be a figment of our imaginations for guidance? Why not search inside ourselves for the power to overcome? After all, we are strong enough to cause most of the catastrophes we need to endure.”
anti-god? give me a f’n break….really! it is simply suggesting that maybe we look for the strength within ourselves rather than depending on some higher being to get us through tough periods in our lives. i definitely agree… i mean the human spirit is stronger and more powerful than we give it credit for. we all have that strength… we just need to know how to retrieve and utilize it efficiently. i definitely don’t have anything against anyone for believing in or looking up to a higher power, whether it be a god, several gods or whatever else, but is it necessary to always seek the strength and help from that power in times of need when we are all capable of getting through it on our own ninety-percent of the time?
and then there was another quote on a starbucks cup in 2005 that also sparked outrage in waco, texas (no surprise here… it is texas after all). this one, however, claimed that the quote promoted homosexuality, which was written by the gay novelist armistead maupin and read:
“My only regret about being gay is that I repressed it for so long. I surrendered my youth to the people I feared when I could have been out there loving someone. Don’t make that mistake yourself. Life’s too damn short.”
ok, so apparently this person totally missed the point and the deeper meaning behind that quote… closing it out simply because it made a reference to the author being gay. this is the exact type of person the author is referring to… those who are so close-minded with blinders on to the real world that they fail to realize that no matter how strongly they believe their way of life is the most direct and perfect “path” it also contains many flaws, contradictions and wrong-doings. in essence and within the grand scheme of things, their lifestyle is not any better than those whose lifestyles they curse and turn away from.
i am just sick of people like this, those who claim to have strong values and moral beliefs. yet, when it comes down to it they are always first in line to judge others and criticize those who happen to hold slightly differing values, morals and lifestyles. the same thing goes with having to be politically correct all the time nowadays just because people get totally offended if you pass a stereotype upon them. hello?! stereotypes do come about due to some truth behind them… get over it already. why don’t we worry more about those who are still unfairly treated in this world today… women, gays and minorities, rather than getting pissed off because someone prints a quote on a bloody cup of coffee that you just so happen to disagree with. get over it!! the world is full of diversity and if one can’t deal with that personally without turning to the media or throwing a temper tantrum just to get your diluted “world” of a bubble back in order the way you like it, then i honestly feel sorry for you.
on a side note, the article also states that the woman just doesn’t feel like it will be the same…her daily trip to starbucks. yeah lady, going elsewhere now your two-dollar cup of coffee every day is really going to break starbucks. in my opinion, you will be doing everyone else a favor by not returning!
