another year has passed… and quite rapidly at that. by this time last year, i was wrapping up my internship at weiss/manfredi’s office in new york and was still living in new york. now, i have graduated… living in atlanta and am have lost interest in trying to find a job with an architecture firm somewhere. for one, i really don’t think that i can really afford to live in nyc while having to pay off student loan debt unfortunately. if i’m paying $200-300 in load repayment on top of $1000-1200 rent a month…along with the typical bills and expenses…. there’s no way in hell i can afford to live in nyc if i’m making less than $50k/year. it would even probably be difficult even if i made $60k/year! so that’s part of my lack of ambition… coming from that painful realization.
then there’s the whole annoyance i get from companies and firms in general and their lack of response when you send your resume and work to them. yeah true, it seems like i should be the one taking the initiative to call and keep in contact since it’s me who wants the job. but then again, most firms get pissy when you keep calling about a job anyway since they are busy with their own work and projects. so doesn’t it make more sense for them to call you if they’re interested or have feedback (for some reason they also feel like they should not call you if they don’t think you’re a ‘right’ fit… asses). if you don’t want to hire me, is it really all that difficult to let me know once you arrive at that decision? if not a phone call, then at least a letter? at this point i would much rather work for myself, and probably be MUCH happier doing so, over working for some established firm with nothing but conceited team members who think they are better than everyone else because they are *architects*. ooh, big whoop! if you haven’t realized it yet, architects in this country are not looked upon all that much so please get off your high horse and come back to reality for once.
anyway, on a good note… i did finally get my new laptop in today which is what i’m using as we speak!
and i purchased my tickets to seattle for xmas today, so those plans are set. i’m flying up to seattle on dec 23 in the morning and flying back here to atlanta on the evening of jan 3. i’m definitely looking forward to getting away for a little while!
so, where has this year gone to anyway?

oh, trust me- things don’t ‘close up’ here in the PNW when it rains
you won’t have to worry about trail gates being closed just because of some ‘light precipitation’! just invest in some good rain gear and you’re set
