i’m not quite sure what i contacted, but i have been totally under the weather for the past week. it first started with a sore throat giving way to fever and more cold-like symptoms last week. so i broke down and took medicine for it as i was really feeling like hell. then by friday, i actually started feeling better and my throat was no longer as sore as it had been the day before, so of course i thought that i was finally over the bug i had acquired. so lee and i went for a mountain bike ride on the trails nearby friday evening, which apparently was a mistake as it seemed to have brought on my illness once again friday night. i awoke yesterday morning with a major sore throat once again, which came about around 300am that morning, so of course i slept like hell once it began. when i awoke, i also notice my lymph nodes swollen at the upper part of my neck below the jaw.
so of course i did some research online based on what my symptoms are and it could be either tonsilitis or mono. ugh! if it’s mono, then at least this will be the only time in my life i get it because once a person has it, they develop immunity to it that keeps them from getting it for the rest of their life. however, mono takes a couple of weeks to fully clear your system… 2-4 weeks for you to return back to normal once your body builds up the necessary immunity against it. tonsilitis doesn’t sound like it lasts as long, but nonetheless i am guessing i will have to deal with this for at least another week. this is probably the longest i have been sick in years, although i would not say it’s all that bad… just a sore throat, stopped-up head and swelling. most of the time i get a fever for 2-3 days and then it goes away without anything serious.
needless to say, i have been sleeping more in the past couple of days than i have in quite a while, which if you know me very well is not a good thing. i’m used to sleeping six hours a night on average so sleeping anything more than that seems to be a waste of precious time during the day!
