yeah the post about things turning around the other day, i think i should probably just remove that one as it seems i was only kidding myself. at least i know that i’m not nearly as overly pessimistic or self-critical as everyone thinks i am. so i was right about not being rewarded with a position with fantasy interactive, but wrong on the belief that things were actually turning around. i received a response this evening after having to email them again, so since i had not heard anything for over a week i was expecting bad news anyway. they informed me that although my passion and drive was definitely there, i still lacked sufficient Flash and overall work experience. okay, i knew that going into the interview, but so did they… so why did they agree to an interview? i spent $500+ on a trip to nyc for the interview and perhaps they knew the entire time i was under-qualified for the position? knowing there’s something more to their reason, i responded to their last email asking for additional feedback and criticisms they may be able to provide (coming from architecture school and the final reviews from hell i occassionally had there, i can take anything you throw at me!). hopefully i get a response back, but highly doubtful as companies all like the ‘lack of experience’ reasoning and just leave it at that.
on a slightly brighter side, i have a second job potential for a similar type of position (not as Flash-dependent though… but still interactive developer) with Digitally Imported radio in nyc. I have been a fan of their radio stations almost since they began and totally love the music scene in nyc which they are a big part of as well. so i sent my resume and portfolio to them yesterday morning, only to receive an email and phone call within 1-2 hours after sending that out. so i would hope that’s a high level of interest. after a brief phone interview with the owner, he requested i take a developer’s test (programming pretty much) and asked if i could put together some conceptual designs for their new logo, which i agreed. he also offered to fly me back out to nyc to meet in person with them and the rest of the team, which i also of course agreed to. i submitted my test to him this evening so now i just have to put together the logo designs this weekend for a monday morning submission. since my first job attempt failed, i sure hope this one goes better!
ugh… now to clear my head after this evenings bad, yet expected, news…
