moving frustrations

nothing new of course. so, i had a sublease planned for a room in a unit about a block from the apartment i was moving out of. i was working with the original leaser, who recently moved to london for a job so we were cooridating through email since i had no way to get in touch with him over the phone. this past tuesday, we worked out a short contract between us for the remainder of the lease, which he sent to me and i immediately responded with approval. i was expecting him to reply shortly thereafter with additional information regarding the move-in information i requested. damn was i wrong!

so this was tuesday. wednesday went by with no word after multiple eamils i sent to him. he knew and i made sure he was fully aware i had to be out of my current apartment by thursday, may 25th. so thursday arrived… the big packing day and still no word on my supposedly new place. i remained homeless after thursday. so i sent him several emails throughout the day (remember the time difference between here and london) telling him that if i did not hear anything from him or if he decided he did not want to go through with the sublease to let me know, else i was going to have to make alternative arrangements. in between packing i was deperately searching craigslist for an alternative sublease and luckily towards the end of the afternoon, i found one at gable central park, which i have previously lived at before so knew it was pretty good, especially the location away from west campus.

after several email exchanges between myself and the girl who was offering the new sublease, we set a meeting time later that evening for me to come by and look at the place and meet my new roommate who will be staying in the other room in the apartment. we talked to a while (ugh…i really hate talking about myself), and then i left when rachel (the current leaser) said she would call me the next day as she has to show it to someone else, but she said no worries as she liked me better and that i was more normal than the other guy (not quite sure what that means or if it’s a good thing?). about twenty minutes after i left, she called and told me they discussed it and that i definitely got the room (ah relief!). unfortunately, the official move-in date is not until june 1st, but we agreed that i can start moving stuff in earlier since she will not be completely out until june 10th anyway.

you may be wondering what i did with all my crap? well, i called the owner’s daughter who was moving in after us if i could leave my stuff in there for two or three days, and offered to pay her whatever she felt was appropriate (and that i approved lol). she said that was fine. i thought “awesome!”. so i crashed at my roommate’s parents’ house in round rock for the night since they were out of town until monday or tuesday of this next week. that was cool, but staying all the way in round rock made it difficult to get things done in austin since i don’t have a car (it never ends, does it?).

so on friday, my roommate and i went into austin… i had to get some work done on campus and we had to give our keys to the daughter for the apartment. later, after unsuccessfully talking my roommate into going with me and some of my friends to a club that night to see some awesome djs perform, he went back to round rock while i hung out near campus waiting for justin to get off of work.

while i was waiting, i was doing some work at starbucks near campus and i get a phone call… it’s the daughter that will be moving into the apartment. she asked if i could move my stuff in the apartment away from the walls since the painters are going to be painting in the morning. i said of course…no problem. then, about twenty minutes later she calls again and tells me that her dad said i need to move my stuff out of there tonight and she was sorry for the short notice. this was at 530p. after i hung up with her i was like ’shit’! so i frantically sat there thinking what my next move was going to be and decided i was going to have to rent either a trailer or truck from u-haul and would have to do it quickly since it was so late already. i called justin and asked if he had a trailer hitch on his truck and if he did… if he would be willing to drive me over to the nearest u-haul place to get a trailer (for some reason i thought trucks were really expensive to rent… forgot about in-town moves being so cheap). we got there and i asked what they had and their prices… their smallest truck was $20 which was awesome so i could drive it myself and it would carry all my stuff. so i rented one and we headed over to the apartment to load it up, which only took about 30-45 minutes. i called another friend who lived nearby who said earlier i could store some stuff in his garage if i needed to, which i really needed to now since it was somewhat of an emergency. he said that was cool, so i drove the truck to his place and unloaded it all… returning the truck back to the u-haul place afterward.

justin picked me up and fortunately he said i could just hang out at their place until the show since he and his brother were going as well. we were going to head downtown around 10-1030p so that the show does not sell out. the show was totally awesome! afterwards my legs hurt from dancing (yes, i do dance if i can get into the music, which was not difficult that night) and a sore throat from yelling. luckily justin said i could crash on their couch for a couple of days until i can move in to my new place… i am going to owe him BIG time! i may go back home to la grange for a couple days just so i get out of justin and randi’s hair… you know how i hate being a burden on people which is why i will usually never ask for help.

i met rachel yesterday while i was working at a nearby starbucks (ok, maybe i do have a coffee addiction) in order to write up a sublease contract between us. so that’s done… gave her the post-dated checks for rent, and now i just have to move in next week. the bad thing is i will be making a more permanent (that’s not bad) move to new york in august… so i’ll have to move again in another two and a half months (that’s bad). all i know is that once i get a place in new york, i will NOT be moving for at least three years… this is getting ridiculous!
