an even bigger mistake

looks like we are now turning toward a potential iran attack, according to a recent BBC article. if our administration does not slow down to think really carefully about the options and the outcomes of the potential choices, it could put our country into a really bad position. according to international reports (can’t always trust our media outlets), iran is at least five to ten years away from actually developing a nuclear weapon, so time is on our side to make the right choice. not to mention, as we have all been witness to on multiple occassions, the bush administration is better at starting fights than actually finishing them. i agree with brzezinski in his comments about the impending situation:

Zbigniew Brzezinski, a former national security adviser to President Jimmy Carter, makes a similar argument about Iran. “I think of war with Iran as the ending of America’s present role in the world,” he told me this week. “Iraq may have been a preview of that, but it’s still redeemable if we get out fast. In a war with Iran, we’ll get dragged down for 20 or 30 years. The world will condemn us. We will lose our position in the world.”

meanwhile… a good interview on NPR about some of the history of US foreign policy and its role in regime change.

it used to be ,you entered college to better yourself or not to be drafted and go to war. we are not far from repeating that mistake. halving to work my way to a higher pay scale ,rather than formal education i can tell you i accrued a large ,seemingly impossible, debt that i overcame ,all the while wishing i had gone to college. so this is not an answer to your delima, but a consult that you might have had the same doubts about your future anyway. from us we are very proud of you and your accomplishments(and travels) knowing all too well the large debt and commitment it took. mom&jlb
